Colin Firth is mesmerising in a career best performance as college professor George Falconer struggling to find meaning in his life after the death of his long term partner Jim. Through the course of one day a series of events and encounters causes him to reflect on his past and consider whether or not he wants a future. The film is certainly as beautiful as you would expect from a man who made his name as head of Gucci, but more than this it is a multi-layered and emotionally alive.
