– so asks this month’s Sight and Sound. Eric Cantona plays himself in this story about a Manchester postman, also named Eric, who is a devoted Man United fan. When things go wrong in his work and love life, he decides to seek out his hero, Cantona, for some philosophical advice and life coaching. This really is a delight of a film which evolved through a series of conversations between Loach, writer Paul Laverty and Cantona after the filmmakers approached the famously philosophical footballer, having been inspired by his very special relationship with all fans of the beautiful game.
