About Sven Goyvaerts

Over the course of the Live Laboratory Symposium Sven Goyvaerts used the Plymouth Arts Centre's already existing social network accounts, Twitter and Facebook, as a platform for a documentary performance. In collaboration with Transmedia classmate Filip Daniels he conceived of Negotiated Map 1.0, an open-ended mind map set up in the Reading Room. Being part of the documentation team, led by Gillian Wylde, Tim Dollimore and Siobhan McKeown, he contributed a video piece of Snezana Golubovic's LOVE STEPS.

Sven Goyvaerts is second year student at Transmedia Postgraduate Program in Arts + Media + Design in Brussels and participant in APT (Advanced Performance Training), a 12-month post-master performance research programme based in Antwerp.

Graduated as a documentary filmmaker, Goyvaerts has written a paper on how to document a piece of live performance art, focusing on the work of Marina Abramovic. His final documentary school project about her work evolved into an installation, Documentary / Performance, in which he presented evidence of encountering the artist and of performing exercises described in her handbooks Unfinished Business and Student Body.

On June 16th 2009 Goyvaerts embarked on his One Year Life Performance 2.0 and started recording every conscious action he does during the day, sharing these through social media.

This project is part of his ongoing investigation into the relation between live performance art and its documentation, which has now grown to include the world of social media, as well as his own everyday life."

Sven comments on his experience: "Attending the Plymouth event has been a true total- AND out-of-body experience for me, reflecting (on) live performance art's ever so volatile split personality. Highlight: bundling my courage to raise a question to Tehching Hsieh and getting an unexpected answer in return."
