Dune PG

Sat 17 April 2pm
Dir. David Lynch, US, 1984, 156 mins
Cast. Francesca Annis, Jose Ferrer, Kyle MacLachlan, Sian Phillips.

You are about to enter a world where the unexpected, the unknown and the unbelievable meet. David Lynch’s Dune had a troubled history – no one thought it was filmable – yet this sci-fi fantasy adaptation of Frank Herbert’s cult book is moving, bewildering and astonishing. Lynch takes an amalgam of ideas from the book and turns them into a very Lynchian film – the sets, the cinematography and the casting are perfect.

The Holy Mountain 18
Sat 17 April 5.30pm
Dir. Alejandro Jodorowsky, Chile, 1973, 114 mins.
Cast. Alejandro Jodorowsky, Horatio Salinas, Zamira Saunders.

A Christ-like figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide and joins others to seek out the Holy Mountain and immortality. This film has to be ‘experienced’ rather than watched. It is absurd, surreal, disturbing and astonishing – all at the same time. A very rare chance to see this pinnacle of cult cinema on the big screen.

Alien 15

Sat 17 April 8pm
Dir. Ridley Scott, US/UK, 1979, 113 mins.
Cast. Sigourney Weaver, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt.

When the mining ship Nostromo lands on a planet to investigate a distress signal, the crew are unaware of the terror they have unleashed on board their ship. The film that introduced the world to the fevered alien designs of HR Giger, the singular vision of Scott and the female warrior Ripley (Weaver)…and remember…in space no one can hear you scream!
